Respond to an agent request

An agent can pause part-way through a run and ask you something. The run waits where it is until you answer, and picks up again once you have.

Open the request

A paused run shows a pulsing amber Needs input badge in the Status column of the Agent runs table. Select the badge to open the response window. If you have already expanded the row, select Respond in the row instead.

The window holds three things:

  • the agent's question, set out at the top;
  • a box for a written reply;
  • a picker for attaching documents.

Where the agent has specifically asked for documents, the Attach documents section is highlighted and says so.

Answer the question

Reply in writing, attach documents, or do both — whichever the question calls for.

To attach documents, tick each one you want in the picker. Type in the search box to keep only the documents whose titles contain what you type. A document owned by another member of your team carries an italic team badge beside its title. If you are not sure which document the agent needs, find it in the documents table first.

Select Submit to send your answer. You have to give the agent something: submit with an empty reply and nothing attached, and the window shows "Provide a written reply, attach at least one document, or both." and sends nothing. Add one or the other, then submit again.

After you submit

The window closes and the run carries on from where it paused. Its status goes back to running, and you can follow the rest of it in the table as before.

Leave the request for later

Select Cancel, press Escape, or select outside the window to close it without answering. The run stays paused until you respond, and the Needs input badge is still there when you come back to it.

You can also stop a paused run rather than answer it. The cancel action works on a run waiting for input just as it does on one still going — see Track agent runs.
