Export and version a template
An existing template can be exported as a portable file bundle, and a new version can be imported from one — replacing the template's contents while keeping the template in place. Both actions sit on the template's row in the templates table.
Export and Import new version become available only once any processing on the template is complete. If the actions are disabled, wait for processing to finish.
Export a template
Select the Export (download) action on the template's row. A portable file downloads, containing everything the template needs: its documents and its field definitions.
Use an exported file to give a colleague a copy of the template, to set the same template up elsewhere, or to keep a backup of the template as it stands today.
Import a new version of a template
Import new version replaces a template's contents with those from an exported file, keeping the template itself in place. The template keeps its name, and nothing else about it changes — there is no second copy: the new version simply takes over from the old one.
- Select the Import new version (upload) action on the template's row.
- Select an exported file whose documents match this template's. The file is checked before anything changes.
- Confirm.
The template's documents and field definitions are replaced with those from the file.
To keep the old version alongside the new one instead, import the file as a new template and mark the old template as superseded — see Create a template and Supersede a template.
